A new blog and a review about my current career moment

In recent years, I made a choice to prioritize other activities in my life, and this involved a lot of changes (including a change of country). While I was working on this blog project, I ended up reading my posts from 7 years ago, and I can see my evolution as a developer and as a person during this period.

In 2015, my focus was on recovering from a severe financial crisis I had and after that moving on to the next step that I thought should be immigrating to the USA or Canada to work in a technology company. The plan didn’t unfold as I had imagined, and I ended up immigrating to Portugal and working in a luxury fashion company. But after traveling down this path, I see that it was the right choice for what I was seeking.

I learned a lot about the culture of Portugal, met people whom I will continue to admire and stay in touch with for the rest of my life, and worked with individuals who exceeded any expectations I had. I improved as a developer, I improved as a person.

Later, I wanted to challenge myself technically and perhaps fulfill that dream from 2015 of working in an American startup with a base in San Francisco. That’s how the last 3 years went. While I was less daring in my professional life, in my personal life, I found an incredible partner and had a child who teaches me to be a little better every day. I resumed my master’s degree, where I met more people, and I am finally studying compilers and AI as I wished.

The past posts show how I advocated for technologies and standards; my perspective on them has changed now, and I prefer to shape solutions around the people I work with and the problems we’re united to solve. This blog serves as a diary and a platform for personal opinions, a way to put ideas into text so that I can revisit and further mature these ideas.

Thanks,

Rodrigo
